DOC VENEZIA – WHY DRINKING OUR WINES MEANS DRINKING VENICE

The wines are the fruit of vineyards which, at the end of the 19th century, occupied the long stretch of land which extended from the lagoon to the Dolomite mountain chain.

This bio-diversity represents the history of Venice, the persons and the trade which contributed to the countless facets of what Venice is today, a city which is cosmopolitan, heterogeneous, and international.

These wines offer the personality which each and any of us can encounter walking through the city’s streets or entering a traditional bistrot or tavern. They are the true and authentic flavors of this life style, and they can be observed in the Convent of the Discalced Carmelites, where historic local grape varieties have been recovered: Raboso Piave, Tocai Friulano, the Incroci Manzoni crossings, the Verduzzo Trevigiano and Friulano as well as such international varieties as the various Pinots, Cabernet, Merlot, and Chardonnay which have adapted themselves perfectly to this area.

THE SAFEGUARDING AND PROTECTION OF AN EXTRAORDINARY TERRITORY

The Venezia DOC appellation was created in the year 2010 with the express purpose of gathering together the best of local oenology. Those who roam through Venice can, in fact, discover that the names of the streets and the plazas of the city are a homage to the precious local nectar, for example: Calle della Malvasia (Malvasia Street), sottoportego de l’uva (Arcade of the Grape), ponte della Malvasia (Malvasia Bridge), calle del vin (Wine Street), al graspo de uva (At the Grape Stem) etc.
